The novel presents additional possibilities to the story, none of which change the truth we already know. These probabilities are fiction, because we do not have significant facts to prove otherwise. However, we have data to suggest that these probabilities may have occurred somewhat similar to what is presented. If they didn’t, we would not have our current evidence existing today.
In the end, we have a greater understanding of the truth and that is not anything to fear.
